The Idea

Author standing amongst the ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia

Some places grab you fast. A day or two, and you've seen what they have to offer (that's not a criticism). A perfect afternoon in a hill town, a night in a port city, a morning at a market. Done. Wonderful.

Other places resist being rushed. You think you're getting the hang of it. Then a door opens. You're in a new neighborhood. A conversation changes your itinerary. A savored meal that demands a return visit. A week later and there is still so much to see.

And then there are the few you keep going back to. Not because you haven't seen them, but because you have.

I noticed this pattern over years. Moving quickly through places I'd always meant to visit, trying to get a feel for each one with never quite enough time. Some I crossed off the list immediately. Others I left knowing I'd be back, and soon. Eventually the question stopped being where should I go and started being how long does this place deserve.

That's what this site is built around. Not star ratings. Not top-ten lists. Just an honest take on how long a place deserves and why.
